Broken Walls

Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control. ~ Provers 25:28

Oh the world of gluttony!  That’s where I personally like to live.  I am being totally vulnerable here when I tell you that I have pretty good self-control in my life except for one area …. I love food!  I am a self-proclaimed “foodie”, but what I really am is an overeater.  Big portions and seconds are not uncommon and it’s something I have to work at almost every time I eat.  To let our worldly desires overtake us and to have no control of our spirit is like a city with no fortified walls up as defense.  The city is an easy target and can easily be taken over.  The same thing can happen to us when we let our own actions and emotions run wild; we run into sin and ruin as we are, by nature, sinful people.  We don’t stop the harmful behavior, but instead let it run wild instead of reigning it in.  Our defenses are down and our city is right for the devil’s picking.  Many people who have been in trouble with the law got in that predicament because of lack of self-control.  Trouble came in through the front gate and there was no resistance.  You cannot produce a rich spirit filled life if you do not have self-control.  The opposite of control is chaos and nothing lasting, or of good measure comes from chaos except more chaos and confusion.  I hate to say it, but sometimes our worst enemy is ourselves.  When we give up and let our emotions, feelings and spirit run free we will end up with heartache at the end of a long journey.  Jeremiah 17:9 says, “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?”  Our hearts and spirits are inherently misleading.  We  need to rule over them.  You need to resist your flesh and obey the Lord’s ruling over your life.  Put your desires aside and ask God for help.  Build your defenses and walls with prayer and bible study.  You cannot reign in your heart on your own.  You will need help.  Ask Him.  Ask godly friends and family to help you.  Identify where you need help.  Take over your mind.  Ask God for strength and He will provide. ~ Amen
