Body Temples

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?  You are not your own; you were bought at a price.  Therefore, honor God with your bodies. ~ 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Bodies are temporary housing units for our souls and while our souls will live forever, it is true our bodies will give out.  But just like we take care of our homes, as our dwelling places, we should take care of our bodies as our soul’s dwelling place.  We should be good stewards of our bodies.  When our physical home starts needing repair, we take notice and fix things.  A roof might leak, a pipe might break, we may need some electrical work, or a fresh coat of paint.  In the same way, we need to be mindful of what repairs our body and mind may need.  How is your mental state?  Do you need help? Maybe some counseling?  Do you need to get into God’s work and remind yourself what He says about you?  Are you leaking toxicity, or negativity?  What are the eyes to your soul seeing?  Maybe it’s time to change our outside influences so we can repair a spiritual leak.  What kind of nutrition are you fueling your body with (my personal struggle; I’m not very good at always eating right)?  We were born as sinful creatures, but as soon as we become a follower of Jesus and accept what He did on the cross for us, ownership of our bodies now becomes a temple for the Holy Spirit to dwell in.  Our body becomes a housing unit for royalty!  The prince of the Most High’s spirit is living in you!  Doesn't He deserve the best? While this verse was written by Paul to address sexual immorality, it is relevant to any type of sin against the body:  self harm, mutilation, gluttony, and substance abuse just to name a few. My dad used to tell my sister and I, “what you watch, read and listen to you are also making Jesus watch, read and listen too. Would he be okay with it?”  Just one of many things my wise father taught us, but it caught me off guard and really made me pay attention to what I was saturating my mind and body with.  How about your temple?  Are you treating it holy?  Forgive me Lord for not keeping a clean house.  Show me how I can be better at keeping your temple clean and help me follow your lead. ~ Amen
